When you trust Threadkeeper with your voice entries and personal reflections, we take that seriously. This privacy policy explains in simple terms what we do (and don't do) with your information.

The Short Version

  • Your entries, transcripts, and summaries belong to you
  • AI processes your content to create summaries - but never for training or sharing
  • We don't manually access your content unless you share it with us for support
  • We never sell or share your data with anyone
  • Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest
  • You can delete everything anytime, and it's gone forever

What Information We Collect

Your Account Basics

When you sign up, we need:

  • Your email address (so you can log in)
  • A password (managed securely by Firebase Authentication)

That's it. We don't need your name, birthday, or any other personal details.

What We Store When You Record

When you create an entry, we store:

  • Your voice recording (the audio file)
  • The transcript (your words converted to text)
  • AI-generated summaries and insights
  • When you made the entry

How You Use the App

We track basic usage to improve Threadkeeper:

  • Which features you use (like recording voice or viewing summaries)
  • If something crashes or has an error
  • How long your sessions are

Important: We track what you do in the app, but never the content of what you say or think.

How We Protect Your Information

Strong Encryption

Your data is protected with industry-standard encryption:

  • In transit: All data is encrypted when traveling between your phone and our servers
  • At rest: All data is encrypted when stored on our servers
  • We use AWS Key Management Service (KMS) with automatic key rotation

  • Firebase Authentication - Handles your login securely

Each service has strict privacy standards. We've configured them for maximum privacy.

What We Do With Your Information

Your Personal Content

We don't manually access your content unless you explicitly share it with us for support. We:

  • Never read your transcripts or listen to your entries (unless you share them with us)
  • Never analyze your content for marketing
  • Never use your content to train AI models
  • Never share your content with third parties

Usage Information

We use basic app usage data to:

  • Fix bugs and crashes
  • Understand which features people like
  • Make the app better

This data is linked to your account to help us improve features you use. We never share this data with third parties.

Privacy Features You Control

Scramble Text for Screenshots

Settings includes a toggle that obscures all journal content while preserving its structure — word shapes, punctuation, and emoji remain visible, but the actual text is replaced with meaningless characters. Use this when sharing your screen or submitting a bug report so your private entries stay private.

Anonymous Usage Analytics

We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used. Analytics never collect your journal content, transcripts, or any text you've written or spoken. We track tab navigation and recording duration only. On Android, advertising ID collection is explicitly blocked.

Habit Reminders

Reminders are opt-in and adaptive. When you turn them on in Settings, Threadkeeper learns your typical journaling time from your usage patterns. That cadence is computed and stored on your device. The app backs off automatically when you're already journaling regularly.

Multi-Language Transcription

Voice entries are transcribed in the language you speak — Threadkeeper detects the language automatically. Transcription is no longer limited to English.

Sharing Audio from Other Apps

When you share an audio file into Threadkeeper from another app (using your phone's standard share sheet), we treat that recording the same as one made inside the app: encrypted upload, transcription, AI processing, all under the same privacy guarantees.

Your Rights and Controls

Export Everything

Want a copy of all your data? You can download:

  • All your entries
  • All transcripts and summaries
  • Your entire Threadkeeper history

It's yours to keep forever.

Delete Everything

Changed your mind? You can:

  • Delete individual entries
  • Delete your entire account
  • When you delete something, it's gone within 24 hours

Delete means delete. We don't keep secret copies.

Control Notifications

You decide if you want:

  • Push notifications when summaries are ready
  • Email updates about new features
  • You can turn these off anytime

When We Have to Share Information

We believe in complete transparency about our legal obligations:

Legal Requirements

If a court orders us to share data, we have to comply. But:

  • We'll only share what's legally required
  • We'll tell you if legally allowed
  • Your encryption still protects you

Information for Parents

Threadkeeper is designed for users 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy:

  • We'll email you about important changes
  • The new version will be posted here
  • You can always find old versions in our archive

We'll never reduce your privacy rights without your clear consent.
