Frequently Asked Questions

How do I create an entry?

Tap the floating action button (FAB) at the bottom-right of the screen. A menu appears with options: voice recording, text entry, and (when available) a prompt-driven entry based on suggestions from your keepers. When you're done recording or writing, your entry uploads automatically when you have an internet connection.

You can also share audio files into Threadkeeper from other apps using your phone's standard share sheet, or drag and drop audio files directly.

How long can my recordings be?

Each recording can be up to 30 minutes long.

How do summaries work?

After your recording uploads, our AI processes it and creates summaries at five time scales:

Daily - what you captured today
Weekly - the rhythm of your days
Monthly - emerging themes and priorities
Seasonal - how you've grown over three months
Yearly - the story of your year

Alongside summaries, Threadkeeper also builds Threads — AI-detected topical narratives that weave together entries about the same subject across many days or weeks. Threads live in their own tab and grow as you add related entries.

Can I use Threadkeeper offline?

Yes! You can record entries anytime. They'll upload and process when you're back online.

Is my data private?

Absolutely. Your recordings are encrypted, we never read or share your content, and your data is never used to train AI. See our Privacy Policy for details.

What's the Village?

The Village tab is where your AI keepers live. Each keeper has their own house with a bulletin board written in their own voice — some are calm and reflective, others curious or direct. You can visit a keeper's house to read their observations, react with an emoji, and answer the interactive questions they post.

You can star up to three keepers as Focus Keepers. Focused keepers update daily and show an "In Focus" badge; others update weekly. You can also give keepers custom nicknames.

Can I get writing prompts?

Yes. When you tap the FAB to create a new entry, Threadkeeper offers journal prompts if any are available. There are 12 built-in prompts, and your focus keepers contribute personalized ones based on your recent entries. Prompts rotate so you see fresh suggestions over time.

Can I get reminders to journal?

Yes. Go to Settings and turn on habit reminders. Threadkeeper learns when you typically journal and schedules reminders around that time. It backs off automatically when you're already journaling regularly.

How do I change my voice style?

Go to Settings and look for Voice Style. You can choose first, second, or third person for your summaries, set your pronouns, and add optional notes about tone. Threadkeeper uses these preferences when generating narratives from your entries.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account from Settings in the app, or visit our account deletion page for instructions.

How do I export my data?

Go to Settings in the app and tap "Export Data" to download all your recordings and summaries.

App Issues

The app won't open or crashes

Try these steps:

Force quit the app and reopen it
Make sure you have the latest version installed
Restart your device
If issues persist, email us at support@threadkeeper.app

My recordings aren't uploading

Check that you have an internet connection. Recordings upload automatically when connected. You'll see an upload indicator if entries are waiting to sync.
